Thanks to Samsung for sponsoring today's video! Check out the Samsung Smart Monitor M8 at lmg.gg/Ns4T9
Samsung's smart monitor line-up has always been pretty interesting, and it's even more interesting, especially after a particular company's monitor was released that feels a bit lackluster... The Samsung Smart Monitor M8 might be something you should look at if you need something that fits in a small space and does almost everything you need.

Note: The power delivery from one USB-C port is actually 65W and not 45W. So, it should be enough power to charge up most if not all devices while connected.
Don't forget that you can detach the cable from the computer too!
i just love how in short circuit videos everyone on LTT just shows up to see the hot new thing being unboxed and getting their first reactions, lol
Si señor
Sponsored by Samsung :/
And they are all my favourite tech IRglors. This channel and all of them in it!
@Mr.P-Fox I agree, his videos are great and his kinda "Anti-Apple-look" makes it even better. 😂 Apples favourite host would be probably James in a suit. 😂
jonathan is very entertaining to watch even though i just sold my ipad for a samsung tab and dont have any apple products anymore.
I honestly didn't expect that many features. Kinda impressed with the software ngl
@Chris M it's for someone who doesn't want a TV so he can just use the monitor without turning on his pc
@Benyamin Lorit ssshhhh! Don't tell Chris that I am looking to buy this. I will pair it with a M1 Macbook Air, an old Samsung Note 9 with a dead smashed screen as the DeX device and even as a TV for a small studio apartment I rent in a city I usually stay in a few days monthly for work. This is a perfect product for my use case!
@Chris M what are you talking about? 😅 None of the use cases I presented mentioned a computer nor did I even suggest it as a main monitor for your desk setup. I specifically suggested use cases involving compact living & accommodations where the utility of a hybrid like this that works with everything and every OS can be fully employed. Also, this is Samsung, they have more than enough resources invested in TV's/monitors and them allocating a bit for a smaller hybrid category is nothing in the grand scheme of their operations.
@Chris M i didnt think I would use the features that mutch just bought it on a big discount at a price equal to regular 32 inch fhd screen, but oh boi it is ever useful. When I just want to quickly google somethin for homework I plug the periferals to it and its a fully functional browser. You can even tap it to see the material that is on your phone. It has built in streaming apps for the occasional chillin.
@Benyamin Lorit if it's a monitor, then just reach over and press the power button on the computer. As a tech fan, I'd prefer companies put their resources towards features that are useful to more than like 6 people
Samsung is doing it all wrong. They need to double the price and charge a third more to adjust the height. Monitors aren't supposed to be well-designed AND affordable.
@Arjun do you also call a $700 car expensive even though there's many for 50k and up?
No vesa mount. Apple haters: *…… …. ….. but it has removable power cable!*
And color accurately good and not saturated
@Pixels which are being removed or already have been removed
If they made a 120Hz version that was $50 more, this'd be my second screen.
@Ray00 G9 is a bit overkill IMO, G7 should suffice most people, although you are sacrificing screen quality for refresh rate at that point since G7 is just HDR600
@Ray00 The G9 is $1,400, and 1440p, and 49". This isn't even $800, 4k HDR10, and 32". They aren't even in the same category dude lol
just get their odyssey g9 with 240Hz if you are a gamer it has killer specs
That's what I'm saying, I was really hoping this would be a higher refresh rate. Not yet sadly I guess lol
@Ali Reza i mean if you oc it you may get 70 - 80hz soo...
This feels really nice for a dorm room/studio apartment setup where you're docking something like an xps13.
@Kjfjfjwialalfnrkwo2848 well it's not a gaming monitor , most people who don't game don't care much about screen refresh rate
@Chris M honestly, not at all. I don't like bright screens as they give me rather severe headaches and this monitor isn't in direct sunlight. It definitely would be an issue if you put it in a room with a lot sunlight but for any use case I have it isn't an issue. Plus the price and feature set for the m7 just isn't beatable rn
@Pranav Kolluri Doesn't the 250 nits of the M7 bother you? I see it going for 300 usd on Amazon. A much better value
would have been nice to see this hooked up to a different computer or a samsung smartphone with dex
It would like any normal monitor duh,
Deffinatly. I wanted to see wireless dex
It is an unboxing, not a review. Sometimes I really wish these were more review-like
they need a follow up video definitely
That's what the studio display should've been. They just had to do this (and they had everything to do it).
@showda KO's Yes. the Studio display IS better. IF it suits your use case scenario which, in my case, it absolutely does! I won't use anything less than a retina screen (whether 5k desktop or Macbook Pro). The M8 is not 'optimised' for use on a Mac for anything other than consuming content. As flawed as it might be, I would definitely pay the extra for the Studio Display over this because it makes my job a whole lot easier. As for alternatives to the Studio display, there's one. That's it. LG Ultrafine. The only alternative with a 218ppi pixel density. But for the extra £300, I'd still take the Studio Display.
@Hugo Wells way to say "better display" in 5 different ways Resolution, Pixel density, blacks and brightness are all the same thing that go hand in hand in making it a better display. When I say better webcam you don't see me saying "wider angle, better lens, more aperture, more megapixels, better image quality" You know why I don't say that? Because it's all the damn same thing. You're cherry picking. Higher wattage power IS SOMETHING NEW THANK GOD. You've been repeating "better display for every comment as if people have disagreed. And speakers are all subjective you can measure it but that doesn't mean it'd better. Because I can put a huge driver and compare to someone software small driver and there's can easily outperform. Your first subjective argument. Wow build quality wattage power and display for 1300$ more. While the samsung m8 outperforms it in every other metric
@derpy derp Higher resolution, higher pixel density, better colour accuracy, better black levels, higher brightness, higher wattage power pass through. Better speakers with a wider frequency range. All these things can an have been measured. That makes it a better monitor period. You may not need those things. You may not value those things. But it is s better monitor
@hman615 Which similar monitor is this?
Fun fact: this was launched before the studio display
@Timothy Vreeland Exactly this!
@Timothy Vreeland no one copying the bright iMac colors. No one.
@Gert Op de Beeck Ah yes, back of a monitor doesnt look good Who tf looks at the back of a f ing monitor
And after the iMac
I'd love this monitor if it didn't have the 'smart' stuff in it. If they released a version of this monitor without the smart functions for $100 less, I'd be all over it.
This is actually pretty good!! Ngl seeing this product and how many features this have, DeX is seeming like a great alternative to a regular computer if all you do is work and type and consume media. Perfect setup for someone who doesn't game and just wants a great versatile work screen
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝 thanks for watching You have been selected among the lucky winners, inbox 🔝🔝🔝🔝
The monitor seems amazing but I'd honestly rather have my monitor not be "smart".
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝 thanks for watching You have been selected among the lucky winners, inbox 🔝🔝🔝🔝
If this had a 120hz.... *these things would be selling like hotcakes* 🥞
120HZ ??? The price would easily double....
@eb Only if they come with height adjustment for $400
@hman615 It is one of those things you just have to experience. I thought 1080p looked great until I played at 4k.
@Defective Degenerate I’m quite good at fps with 60 hertz monitor and like awful 4ms response time I wonder how good I’d be with 240 hertz and .5ms
@Carl Eze I don't play games that often, but when I do I like them to play well, and I wouldn't even consider a monitor with less than 120hz in the year 2022, especially if it doesn't have freesync. But for basic internet stuff and shit-posting on IRglo, 60hz is enough.
I've got the 32" M7 and freaking love it. I've never used the Dex / tap to connect feature myself buy my buddies have and it works pretty well. The Airplay works and all in all is one of the better monitor/tv buys I've ever made.
@John Carlo Raquiño you are welcome. Please report back your findings
@hydrolife tech haven't thought of that before. Thanks for the idea!
@John Carlo Raquiño can you find out if it works with a USB c to audio jack dongle? I'd love to find out if it supports USB c to audio
Agree! Love my M7 for Office works and media consumption. My only complaint is the lack of audio jack for a better speaker.
@Viktor M. even my 32 inch fhd m5 has hdr tonemapping wich looks great. Dont expect hdrness from the cheaper ones tho.
I love this guy’s reviews! So calming and no flashy or cringy stuff! Love it!
I've been saying this for a long time, gonna say it again. THIS IS NOT A REVIEW
@Freddie Plaza What pisses me off is how little they seem to care about it when called out. I've been correcting their videos for years and so have plenty of other commenters and I hardly ever see any acknowledgement unless it's something that gains a ton of publicity. I've emailed and posted on their forums too and never see any response and I'm sure there's plenty of other people out there who've experienced the same.
Yeah this guy more chill
@Joonil Oh To be fair, every LTT host trys recalling specs and prices for the stuff in these videos off of the top of their head and very frequently gets things wrong. They also neglect to mention important details to the viewer and that ends up misrepresenting the product Idk I would rather have a 5-10 min longer review describing the product a lot better then having these fast-edit, off-the-cuff impression videos that often don't do much of value other than advertise the product and not really inform the consumer very well. I don't know why LMG started doing commercials with vague explanations, might as well officially partner with the company their sponsored by at that point instead of pretending to be non-biased and on the consumer's side
And so filled with misinformation that could've been avoided by spending 2 minute's looking at samsung's site and the specs they list. It's 65W PD and $729 is the price for the colored models. The white model (which is the one they have) is $699.
since the camera is usb c and not built in, will it work with another device? worth looking into
It can ve used on samsung tv
@Sean Harrison The guy did say Volta and any other brand.
@Sushim Shah Volta lol. You do realize that magnetic charger is a generic one from Alibaba and they just put their logo on it and charge a premium. AliExpress sellers sell those same chargers for much cheaper
@Lawrence Osborne Jr ok,won't stop me from gettin one tho.
This is a dumpster fire
Given how Samsung started removing apps due to lack of support from my 2015 Tizen smart TV starting already in 2019, I'm dubious of any "smart" monitor.
@chidorirasenganz once you try a true 1000nit HDR TV/monitor you will :)) everything (that is made in HDR) just looks a lot more lifelike
@chidorirasenganz By your logic of no one caring about HDR, it just means the M8 is even more pointless of a product than it already is.
@James Cassar no if you talk to ordinary people or even people passively into tech, you’d easily see there’s tech nerds like us and people who couldn’t be bothered to care about certain specifics
@Fakuri Not sure what your country is, but in the US, for my TV, there's no HBO Max, no Disney+, no Apple TV+, no Paramount, no Peacock, no Pluto, no Tubi. Maybe it's because my TV's a little bit older being a 2015, but it sucks because it started before the TV was 5 years old.
Really neat product and software! On the other hand the idea of a smart monitor is irritating for the same reason smart TVs are annoying, I'd steer away from a smart monitor and just plug in a box to run whatever software. Videos I've seen of this thing makes it look like flimsy plastic, makes the constant comparison's to Apple's metal products strange to me
@Shasha Ah okay I get you, yeah I feel those draw a much more meaningful comparison
@Zac I am not talking about this product that they showed in a video. Check out similarily priced pro displayed from samsung or sony...
@Shasha The studio display has numerous obvious flaws (whoever it is at apple who hates normal monitor mounting solutions needs to get their head checked) but its such a different product to this one that It just doesn't make sense (imo) that its mentioned in every review of the m8. Also to adress other people who are like "would rather have plastic and get X feature", yeah obviously thats the trade off you're making. This one looks particularly flimsy when handled though.
@Nielsf2704 Actually we already saw how apple did. Not interested to see more. BTW what was better?? that adjustment functionality of 400$ or an unpar display for the price??
Apple could do it way better. Honestly smart TVs are also overrated. Most of the time people don't even use the smart features. Getting a non smart TV would lower the costs and you could use an external media player like Apple TV if you prefer that.
can't wait to have a monitor that's going to stop having security updates
@Utkarsh Mishra bruh iMac and similar all in ones are full fledged computers This is just a fire tv stick shoved in a 32” screen
@Vamsi G It was sarcasm, I don't think embedded computers are bad. But if someone thinks it is bad then iMacs are same thing embedded computers which you can't upgrade and not even use it as a monitor once computer becomes useless.
@Utkarsh Mishra that’s a really dumb comparison. But go on
@Adam S. Yeah iMac are so useless too, embedded computer in a monitor....right? Atleast you'll have option to use this as monitor unlike the iMac.
@Adam S. It's not like it's gonna run any games on it,just office,and streaming apps,which aren't really resource intensive.
The fact that Jon always cameos for Apple look-alike devices is so fulfilling!!
Truly lol u know a product is well designed when he comes up
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝 thanks for watching You have been selected among the lucky winners, inbox 🔝🔝🔝🔝
Honestly, probably would have bought one of these instead of a TV for my room last year. Definitely would still consider in the future if they fix a few issues. Would be great for a laptop.
imagine if they had a 144hz version I would buy that so fast!
Still waiting for a glossy 32" 4k with good specs that's affordable. It's criminal how expensive monitors are for how bad they are
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝 thanks for watching You have been selected among the lucky winners, inbox 🔝🔝🔝🔝
Seems like a good screen ! Maybe it would still buy an iMac or something, because it might not be enough, but definitely a good around monitor. I love the Montreal news by the way, thanks.
I’m surprised the Apple didn’t do 4K/120Hz/HDR/MiniLED for the Studio Display, but I suppose it was cheaper to just use the display from the iMac. Either that or they’re saving those features for the next ProDisplay XDR.
@chidorirasenganz interesting, thanks for the input!
@RetroDestroyer 8k wouldn’t be more crisp because to maintain the PPI of around ~220, Apple would increase the screen size to 40in. The Studio Display is a content creation screen not a content consumption one. With 5k you can see the content at 4k while still having room for UI elements. On a 4k screen you’d have to display content smaller than 4k unless you don’t mind not making changes in realtime due to the lack of viewable UI elements.
@chidorirasenganz I mean at that point, even 8k is more crisp Won't "MOST" creators prefer 4k as that's like a standard resolution among creators? I am just gaining knowledge here :D I hope I am wrong. Hope they don't release dumb products like the studio display again
@RetroDestroyer As far as price I’m hoping for 4k with the stand but that might be hoping for too much lol
@RetroDestroyer It allows for 2x scaling from 1440p so the UI elements are incredibly crisp. 5k is 50% more pixels than 4k so it makes a huge difference. Also all of Apple’s mac screens are at least 218 PPI so a display at 27in would have to be 6k. Hence why the pro display is 6k at 32in. This ensures you have a consistent experience across devices.
This would also be great for connecting to your docked Switch or Steam Deck, since they don’t do more than 60fps anyway.
I have the previous version of this smart monitor, and tbh, I think it is a better deal than this one. The only complaint it it Dosent have control navigation on the monitor it self
